Glossary

AAA rating- A dishwasher must prove its efficiency in the cleaning, drying and energy consumption sectors to be credited with a AAA rating. Dishwashers with AAA rating are very efficient and also acclaim an eco-friendly status.

Built-In/ fully integrated  dishwasher- these type of dishwashers are permanently, integrated into the kitchen, usually under the sink. They are fixed type of appliances and are not portable.

Delay timer- programmable feature that enables the users to personalize the start time of the wash process according to their convenience.

Drying- dishwashers apply different type of strategies to dry their dishes. The most prominent type of drying is residual drying method.

Full size dishwashers- the width of this appliance will measure around 60 cm , they feature 12 or more place settings; ideal for big families.

Half load option- wash programmes are engaged, exclusively in the loaded racks(usually the top rack); this programme promotes energy and water conservation.

Noise level-the measurement of sound output given out by a dishwasher during its run. It is measured in decibels. The lower the noise level, the quieter the appliance will be.

Portable/freestanding dishwasher- these types of dishwashers are not integrated and can be moved from place to place; ideal for rented house users.

Slimline dishwasher- these dishwashers scale around 45 cm in width, ideal number of place settings as per the norms of IEC is 9. These dishwashers are suitable for small and moderate sized families.

Temperature-  higher and lower temperature settings are engaged by the dishwasher for handling highly soiled and less soiled dishes. Higher temperatures work well on dried on soil but they consume more power.

Table top/countertop dishwashers- these appliances are comparatively smaller than portable and built-in dishwashers. As the name rightly suggests, they are placed on top of the table.

Water softener- this option helps in reduction of the water’s hardness levels, so that the wash results are not interfered with the salt content level of the water.

Wash programmes- wash cycles that are designed with varying aspects to support an effective wash schedule regardless of the type of the dishes and also the varying level of the dirt  upon them. These wash programmes come under three categories: light, normal, heavy.
