Place Settings Of A Dishwasher
June 13, 2009
The term ‘place settings’ in respect of the dishwasher represents the capacity of the machine. It is an international standard specified and followed in all countries. Many of the consumers may not be aware of the exact magnitude or largeness of a machine which has a specified number of place settings. Generally it is known that one place settings is equivalent to the space required to accommodate a set of items such as dinner plate, soup plate, desert plate, glass tumbler, tea cup & saucer, knife, fork, soup spoon, desert spoon and a teaspoon. As there are no specific standard for the sizes of the above items, the definition need not be considered as exhaustive.
A perusal of advertisements or catalogues will reveal that many of the dishwashers available in the markets are having place settings of 4 to 13. It is obvious that the capacity of a dishwasher is proportional to its physical dimension. As the shapes and sizes of plates and dishes vary, the space required to accommodate them also may differ. Therefore it may not possible to load same number of items in each wash. Normally it is considered that a machine having 8 place settings will be sufficient for an average family. Such a machine will be having a width of 18 inches. A 24 inch machine will have about 12 to 14 place settings. Many of the consumers prefer machines with 12 place settings to be on the safe side.
There are dishwashers which are comparatively tall with 34 inch width that are installed in the kitchen cabinets. The tubs of such machines will have 28 percent more capacity than the regular ones. It is therefore better to verify the capacity of the dishwasher before opting for one. Invariably, it all depends on the quantity and sizes of the dishes that are to be washed daily. Quantity, sizes and shapes of the dishes will vary according to the lifestyles as well as the culinary habits of the consumers. Modern dishwashers come with convenient stacking arrangements of 2 or 3 racks which are capable of accommodating various types of dishes. Manufacturers monitor the changes that are taking place in the lifestyles of the people and the corresponding changes in the patterns of domestic utensils. They make earnest efforts to design the stacking options accordingly. A 3 tier system of racks is apt for modern family needs.
Many innovative ideas are being incorporated in the latest models of dishwashers to make them user friendly and to enhance the loading capacity. Adjustable racks facilitate loading of more number of dishes of different sizes. Larger items can be loaded into the lower racks. Cutlery trays are provided instead of baskets which occupy more space.
